Camosun among the top 20 research colleges in Canada

Boosted by advanced manufacturing capabilities, top notch faculty and interdisciplinary collaboration with local industry, ϳԹ’s applied research accomplishments received national recognition with a top 20 ranking among medium-sized colleges in Canada in all five ranked categories, according to the latest report by Research Infosource.

“We’re honoured to be recognised as a national leader in practical scholarships and innovation,” says Dr. Richard Gale, Director of Camosun Innovatesthe applied research and manufacturing arm of the college. “We work closely with local industry and regional partners to enhance their efficiency and productivity through research and development capabilities, and our track record of success is something we can all be proud of.”

Research Infosource evaluates a number of critical factors when compiling its annual list, including research funding, industry partnerships, and the technology to which students and faculty have access.

Camosun scored highly across the following five categories:

#17 for research partnerships

#18 for completed research projects

#15 for student researchers

#13 for industry research income

#7 for industry research income as a percentage of total research income

Recent applied research projects at Camosun include the design and manufacturing of medical grade face shields, portable COVID-19 vaccine holders and trays, and a decontamination device to support front-line health care professionals during the pandemic. Other work supports local breweries and distilleries in their analysis of taste factors, small and medium-sized enterprises looking to automate production of wax food wraps and composting bags, and innovative design and manufacturing for marine buoys.
