For the second time in three seasons, the Camosun Chargers are Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) bronze medalists after a come-from-behind victory over the home favourite, Douglas Royals.
The Chargers fell to the Royals 25-28 in the opening set, but powered back with three straight set wins (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) to earn the honours.
Rookie Edyn Van Brabant (Pacific Christian School / Victoria, B.C.) finished with 16 kills and two aces earning her Player of the Game for the Chargers. Erica Bolink (Pacific Christian School / Victoria, B.C.) added 11 points and the team collected 17 aces, including eight from fifth year Brook Ure. (Summerland Secondary / Summerland, B.C.).
This was the final game of the 2023-2024 volleyball season for the Chargers, as a loss in the quarter-finals on Friday eliminated their chance to compete at the national championship.
The Camosun Chargers Athletics Program currently fields teams in basketball and volleyball. Since joining the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) and PACWEST conferences in 1994, the Chargers have competed in over 100 national and provincial championships with over 50 medal winning finishes.
