Jaime discovers a welcoming and diverse campus

When Jaime Desjarlais, from the Elizabeth Metis Settlement in Alberta, decided to take the fast-tracked Health Care Assistant program at Camosun, it meant she had to move to Victoria, leaving her family, close friends and an established career behind.

"It was hard but, I did my research and it seemed Camosun offered a lot of resources and support for students," says Jaime. One of the best things she experienced was meeting people from all walks of life. "I loved seeing all the diversity on campus and how welcoming and kind the staff are.Whenever I needed help with assignments, or even personal matters there was always someone there. It made it easier to be successful in the program."

The Health Care Assistant program is Jaimes first step into the health care field. "Its a great way to get insight on how the health care system works. Ive gotten to experience working at three different facilities and meeting some amazing people along the way." What does the future hold for her? My next goal is to enroll into Practical Nursing. My plan is to eventually move back to my community and work as a nurse there."
